I get dozens of enquiries every week, from women who want to gain more time, money and freedom in their life and want to know how to start a work from home business.   I am often asked, what are the best work from home business ideas and what business can I do from home?

If you have been followng me for a while, you will know that it is my mission in life to; "Teach busy mums, how to generate a profitable income from home, so they can ditch their 9-5, without the fear, uncertainty and overwhelm".

For so long, I dreamed of doing something more creative and fullfilling with my life, but I felt trapped by the so called, 'security' of my 9-5 job. But that all changed, when I was suddenly fired from my job for being pregnant. The stress of it all, meant I lost my Baby and my faith in the corporate world.

It was the worst time of my life, but as I look back, I realise that it was the catalyst that I needed to make a big change in my life. It was the rock bottom that I needed to take control of my life and my destiny.  That's when I took the leap of faith, to follow my dream of starting my own Creative Home Business.  

Now, almost 20 years on, I'm in the privilleged position of being able to teach other women, from all around the world, everything I have learned over the past two decades, about starting a successful home business and starting a business from home.

But, back to the original question:  "What Business can I do from home?"  Thankfully today, it is possible for anyone with a laptop and internet connection, to run a business from home, by combining their own specific knowlege, skills and talent, with a market opportunity.

But often, the women that approach me, either don't feel that they have a specific skill or knowledge that they could monetize, or don't know how to monetize it,  or most commonly, are stuck in a job they have no passion for and they want entirely new work from home ideas and inspiration.

How to Start a Work from Home Business?

One of my other most frequently asked questions, is about the practicaliies of how to start a work from home business, so I have put together a quick check-list of things you will need to do:

Check-list for Starting a Work From Home Business:

• Decide upon your Business's legal structure - will you operate as a sole trader, partnership or limited company?
• If you are setting up a limited company, you will need to register it with companies house.
• Most people start their Creative Home Business's as a sole trader.
• If you wish to operate as a sole trader, you will need to register as Self Employed with HMRC.
• Obtain any permits or planning permission that you may need from your local authority.
• Contact your local authority to find out whether you need to pay Business Rates. 
• Contact HMRC to register for VAT if you expect to have a turnover which exceeds the VAT threshold. 
• Set up a financial record-keeping system.
• Put your name on all of your Business stationery, including letters, invoices, receipts and cheques.
